EXALTED RULER’S MESSAGE

My fellow members,
Well, the Summer Season 2011 is going great at Lodge 307, with the pool and swim team, golf outing in July, and a Crab Feast coming soon. Seems like the time flies in the summer. Looking ahead to the late summer and early fall there are plenty of things to participate in and volunteer for if you have the time. Please read through this news letter and come out and support your Lodge and enjoy yourself.
Our various committees have worked hard this summer and are looking for some relief in the form of new members to join in, so if you have the time please contact one of the committee members or an officer.
Jack Gleason has recently represented our Lodge at the National convention and will report some of the
experience at our next Lodge Meeting, Monday August 15, 2011. There will also be two issues to vote on at our first September meeting. Join us at the Lodge meetings to hear what is going on in the Elks Organization Nationally and more importantly at Lodge 307.

Fraternally,
Bill Leonard

Annual Elks Golf Outing
On Saturday, July 16, 2011, Elks Lodge #307 held its annual golf outing at Rock Manor Golf Course. Thanks go out to the numerous donors and volunteers who helped make the event a huge success.

One hundred and sixteen golfers enjoyed refreshments as they signed in at the registration table. They later gathered on the patio for more food and drinks, as well as the presentation of various awards to recognize good play.  The outing generated a profit of $5,100 to benefit the Lodge.

Save the date! Next year’s outing is already being planned tentatively for the third Saturday in July. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Contact Kevin Quinn to sign up for next year’s outing committee.
Again, we offer a sincere ―Thank you to all who helped to make the event so enjoyable and profitable.

VOLUNTEER IS NEEDED
Looking for a volunteer to head the Activities Committee.  The Chair of this Committee plans and
executes the events.  There is a committee in place but more volunteers are needed.  A minimal amount
of time is required.  Please call Kim at the Lodge, 652-0313.  We’re also looking for some young parents to help out with both the Children's Halloween Party and the Children’s Christmas Party. If there is anyone
interested in helping with these events for the children and grandchildren of our members, please call Kim at
the Lodge, 652-0313.

THANK YOU FROM THE KELLY FAMILY
Phyllis Kelly would like to thank all of you for the many kindnesses shown to her and her family on the passing of her husband, Bernie Kelly. Thanks go out to all those who attended Bernie’s viewing and funeral, to those who sent cards, made donations and showed many other thoughtful acts of condolence. Bernie was a long-time volunteer Elk, who served most recently as Lodge Secretary. May he rest in peace.

POOL NEWS
2011 Elks Swim Team Season Re-cap
The 2011 NBSL swim season proved to be another success for the Elks Swim Club. The Elks swam to another undefeated season in the ―B Division and have posted a 13-1 record over the past three years under the leadership of Coach Mike McKenzie. With all of that success, 2012 will prove to be another challenge as the Elks move into the ―A Division and will compete against the best in the NBSL.  Mike McKenzie took the helm of the Elks swim team 5 years ago and has directed the team back to the top of the NBSL, achieving some of the goals he set when he took over: Creating a competitive ―Swim Program and getting back to the top division.
The Elks have experienced unprecedented growth over the past two seasons, with 150 members in 2010 and swelling to 196 for 2011. The number of swimmers has created phenomenal internal competition among the swimmers which will only help them when swimming against the giants in the ―A division.  Those in the ―A division know we are coming….wait until they see us next year!!!
Besides being the champs of the ―B Division, the Elks finished 5th overall (out of 18 swim teams) at the NBSL Swim Championship; merely 6 points out of 4th place.  Other notable performances from this year’s NBSL Championships:
7-8 Girls Freestyle Relay Champions- (unofficial new Elks record)
9-10 Breaststroke Champion- Timmer Farley
9-10 Boys IM Relay- Champions (2nd straight)
9-10 Boys Freestyle Relay- 2nd Place- less than ½ second out of first
13-14 Girls Butterfly- 2nd Place- Emilie Hager, 3rd in Backstroke
7-8 Girls Breaststroke and Backstroke- 2nd Place- Kayla Farley
9-10 Breaststroke – 2nd place- Val Cradler
9-10 Boys Freestyle- 2nd Place- Timmer Farley
7-8 Girls Freestyle- 5 girls in the top 15
Lofty achievements to live up to next year, so get your strokes in gear for next year and let’s put a bullseye on Silverside’s back.  The 2012 NBSL swim season will be here before you know it.
